The Washington DC Temple Visitors Center puts on a month long festival called The Festival of Lights, where groups from the Washington DC area are invited to come and perform. The concerts are open to the public and are very popular! The first weekend in December, the Suzuki flute teachers and their students put on a performance. They have done it for the last six years. There is a live nativity, an international creche exhibit and Christmas trees decorated by the surrounding stakes. There are over 35,000 lights surrounding the visitors center. It is a great missionary opportunity and a sight to behold.Xander wanted a piccolo for his birthday and Grandma Day happened upon one in a pawn shop one day. He practically sleeps with it, he loves it so much! He was invited to learn one of the piccolo pieces for the concert. He and two high school girls played the piccolo part for "S'vivon", a Jewish Hannukah song. He was so excited and did a great job! Xander is an amazing flute player. He is very talented and loves music so much. Now, with the piccolo, he can expand his repretoire!
My favorite part of the Festival of Lights is walking out to see the lights and the temple. And with all the snow we had, it was "PERFECT!"
