In fifth grade at Garrett's new school, Crossfield Elementary, they put on a Medieval Feast as their final activity for the year. It is a huge production and really impressive!
My friend, Laura, convinced me to head up the Feast with her this year. She said it would be great for us to work together and I could do the creative and she could do the administrative part. She is awesome at the administrative part and even though it turned out to be a lot more work than I anticipated, it was a huge success! Here we are dressed as peasants for the feast......I did my hair in ringlets and put a flower wreath on my head.
Every child is given an assignment as to who they are and they need to dress accordingly.
Here we have some monks......
Even the teachers dress up......
I found some knights wandering the castle hallways.....
There is, of course, a head table where the royalty sits. Everyone puts their name in a hat and five names are drawn to sit at the head table. This year, Garrett was chosen! There were four other girls whose names were chosen, so he was appointed the king! I made his outfit, complete with fur trim and jewels attached to his outfit. He was not happy about wearing the nylons, but in the end, did so and looked great!
I was so impressed with the costumes the kids were wearing! Here are a few jesters.....
The king with a few of his knights...
Some more knights....
The king with his ladies.....notice how excited he was about this picture.....
Each class makes a banner representing their year and then take a picture with the banner.
Here is Garrett with his teacher, Mrs. Carlson. She has been doing this Feast for over 25 years!
I love this picture. I told the boys to stand with the Arch Bishop and they all knelt.....
The king with his peasant mother......
Sitting at the head table was pretty cool. You got a great view of everything that went on during the feast. There was a lot of entertainment to watch too!
Moms and dads dressed like peasants and served the children their lunch....
We had a special appearance by the Oakton High School Madrigals.
They sang several songs for the kids.
Even though he was the king, he still participated in the musical aspect of the program.
One of my favorite dances was the sword dance....
Each class makes several "stained glass" windows to put up in the cafeteria. Some of these designs were amazing. I spent hours at the school helping them do these!!!!
Decorations were a lot of work, but easy also. We used banners from years past and hung them all over the halls and cafeteria.
A huge chandelier hung from the center of the room....
The head table with the backdrop....
The entryway into the cafeteria, complete with a drawbridge and a knight in shining armor!
It was a lot of work, but so fun to watch everything that day! And this king was worth it!
I can't believe he is going to be a sixth grader!!!!
Love you G-man!
